"Zana reflects on why chose London Vision Clinic to have her LASIK procedure"

Professor Reinstein endorses LASIK

LASIK surgery

LASIK is the most common form of laser eye surgery and is suitable for over 90% of patients. It offers the least discomfort, and the fastest recovery time of any laser eye surgery. Most patients can be back at work within 24 hours.

Treating both eyes with LASIK surgery takes around 15 minutes. The surgeon uses either a computer-controlled instrument or a laser to create a very thin, circular flap of tissue in the outer cornea.

This flap is folded back to expose the bed of the cornea, before the laser removes a precise, pre-set amount of corneal tissue. The flap is replaced, and is almost instantly held in place by the natural processes of the eye. In most cases, the flap will have effectively healed within a few hours.

The benefits of LASIK

Healing times for LASIK surgery are significantly shorter than PRK/LASEK. LASIK patients typically return to work and leisure activities within two or three days of their laser eye surgery. The improvement in vision is virtually instantaneous. And it is perfectly safe - indeed, it's routine to treat both eyes with LASIK on the same day.

LASIK surgery results

99.5% percent of London Vision Clinic LASIK patients (from -9.00D to +6.00D) meet the UK required standard for driving without glasses. However, a small number of LASIK patients - particularly those with higher prescriptions - still need glasses or contact lenses for some activities.

Other names for LASIK

Many UK clinics use other names for what is effectively the same procedure. These names include UltraLASIK, UltraLASIKplus, Accu-wave LASIK, Custom LASIK, Wavefront LASIK, Zyoptix, etc.

These are all the same LASIK laser eye treatment, guided by a wavefront aberrometer. But many clinics charge more for them than for conventional LASIK surgery.

Not so at the London Vision Clinic. If you need LASIK surgery guided by a wavefront aberrometer, you will get it - at no extra charge. So it makes sense for us simply to call it LASIK.

What our patients are saying

I was doing more than 1,500 cataract surgeries per year and was tired of cleaning my spectacles after nearly each procedure. While attending a course at the London Vision Clinic, Professor Reinstein introduced us to Laser Blended Vision. I was really impressed by the results patients showed on the next day. This was not simple monovision. Flying back home I felt that the decision-making process was over for me. In a couple of months I had surgery at the London Vision Clinic. Now, more than six months after surgery, my vision is great, and I can read a newspaper at 15cm. Obviously, I am very glad I did it! - Dr. Teesalu, Ophthalmic Surgeon
