
Our mission statement
Establish a Refractive Surgery Unit at Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology through direct-aid and provide knowledge transfer for doctors and management to make the Unit self sustaining to provide humanitarian laser eye surgery and profits which will support other humanitarian eye care at Tilganga.
- Alleviate the suffering of those worst affected by blindness and visual impairment in the poorest countries around the world, by restoring sight to those most in need, via humanitarian laser surgery.
- Significantly reduce the number of blind and visually impaired people globally, through humanitarian surgery.
- Provide a permanent, long-term solution to the blind and visually impaired, via laser surgery.
- Break the “Blind-Poverty” cycle in developing countries, where survival is dependent on good sight.
- Train eye surgeons at the London Vision Clinic to perform at the very highest level, laser eye surgery for the benefit of humanitarian work in developing countries.
- Fund the purchase and installation of equipment of the very best standard, for the laser treatment surgery
- Globally support humanitarian eye care programmes, eye hospitals and mobile relief camps.
- Reach as many people as possible in the fight against blindness by restoring their lives and livelihood and giving them a helping hand out of poverty.
The Nepal Project’s mission
- Tackle Nepal’s disproportionately high number of people living with blindness and visual impairment with the introduction of humanitarian laser eye treatment.
- Fund, transport and install the required laser units needed for treatment.
- Train (July 2010) the very first surgeon and ophthalmologist from Tilganga hospital (Dr Kishore / Gopal) here at the London Vision Clinic to perform the first programme of laser eye surgery, in Nepal.
- In partnership with the Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology and the Himalayan Cataract Project open the new Refractive Unit for operation in December 2010.
- Support and give aid to current humanitarian work at the Tilganga Eye Hospital.
- Observe and respond to the needs of those being treated with laser eye surgery in the new Refractive Unit (Post-op care, education, after care, alternatives for those not eligible)
- Using the high quality training at the London Vision Clinic, ensure and deliver best practice in the field of work to those who need it the most, in Nepal.
- Education programmes for the better understanding and awareness of preventable blindness, cures and eye care initiatives.
- Work in partnership with the Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology, Himalayan Cataract Project (Cureblindness.com) for the benefit of those needing eye care and support in Nepal.
