Eye Treatments

LASIK

LASIK or laser in-situ keratomileusis is the most popular laser eye treatment in which an ophthalmic surgeon uses an excimer laser to reshape the cornea of the eye. LASIK eye surgery therefore alters the refractive properties of the cornea and thereby corrects or enhances eyesight.

PRK

PRK or photo-refractive keratectomy was the first laser eye treatment to use excimer lasers and grew out of the pioneering scalpel-based refractive surgery. PRK is blade-less, hence, no corneal flap is cut, instead the outer layer of cells from the surface of the cornea are removed entirely and subsequently grow back as part of the healing process.

LASEK

LASEK or laser epithelial keratomileusis is a relatively new blade-less eye treatment and similar to LASIK, except with LASEK a corneal flap cut is from the protective tissue layer over the eye (the epithelium) and not the cornea beneath. As this corneal flap is very thin, an ophthalmic surgeon must loosen it with an alcohol solution before they can lift it.

Blended Vision

Blended Vision is a laser eye treatment that enables patients over 40 who need reading glasses, varifocals or bifocals to read again without glasses. It can be done either bladeless or with a blade.

Intra-Ocular Lens

Unlike in laser eye treatment, ophthalmic surgeons implant an artificial lens into the cornea during surgery. The lens is permanent (but can be surgically removed), needs no maintenance and can remain in the eye for the patients entire life.

Cross-Linking

Cross-Linking is a proven eye treatment designed to halt the progression of keratoconus, a serious form of astigmatism that, left untreated, may lead to the need for a corneal transplant.

Intacs®

Intacs® eye treatment helps reverse the effects of keratoconus, a serious form of astigmatism that, left untreated, may lead to the need for a corneal transplant.

The Risks

Laser eye surgery in all its forms employs exceptionally safe procedures, and London Vision Clinic's safety record is exemplary. However, there are risks in any surgery, and it would be both foolish and unethical to pretend otherwise.
