Treat Your Eyes To An Icy Vision This Weekend – London Ice Sculpting Festival

Looking for something to do this weekend? Well, look no further, we may have found an icy escape for you to enjoy. The London Ice Sculpting Festival has returned to Canary Wharf for the fourth time from 11-13 January 2013.

Teams from all around the world are set to create magnificent sculptures from blocks of ice and this year’s theme has been disclosed as ‘The Wonders Of The Universe’ and ‘Infinity’. The event allows visitors to witness the work of highly talented sculptors from UK, USA, France, Hungary, Bulgaria, Spain, Sweden, Netherlands, Latvia, Belgium and Portugal as they compete to be crowned 2013 Champions.

Double Trouble – The Wonders Of The Universe

This year’s theme calls on teams to create ‘The Wonders Of The Universe’ out of a 2-metre block of ice in the Doubles Competition. Although the winners will be decided by a judging panel, there will also be the new Sculptors’ Prize, where the sculptors themselves will decide which Doubles Competition interpretation they consider to be the best. The carving is scheduled to take place 11.00 – 19.00 on Friday 11 January in Wood Wharf, and continuing on Saturday 12 January from 10.00 – 12.00.

“To ‘Infinity’ and beyond…”

Each team member will step up to carve a single 1-metre block of ice in Wood Wharf on Saturday 12 January from 13.00 – 15.30. These sculptors are allocated two and a half hours to carve their masterpieces with the theme ‘Infinity’.

Free-styling

The last competition for 2013 will see each sculptor create a design that has no theme at all, open to interpretation and will be judged by the public. The competition will take place from 11.00 – 15.00 on Sunday 13 January in Wood Wharf.

The winner of this competition will receive the Public Choice award, so don’t miss your chance to vote for your favourite piece.

In addition to watching the masterpieces unveil, the festival will also include an array of entertainment and activities– face paints, snow-filled snow pits and sculpting on an Ice Graffiti Wall; watching skilful moves on the outdoor Ice Chess to witnessing the special Northern Lights Laser Show, there will definitely be something to enjoy for any member of your family.
