PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision: A revolutionary treatment for Presbyopia.
PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision is an innovative treatment for ageing eyes, pioneered at London Vision Clinic.
What is PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision?
PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision is a revolutionary treatment designed to reduce – or even eliminate – the dependence on reading glasses, bifocals, or varifocals for years to come.
Pioneered by London Vision Clinic’s founder and refractive surgery expert, Professor Dan Reinstein, in conjunction with Carl Zeiss Meditec, we have offered PRESBYOND® to our patients since 2005. To date, thousands of people have already benefited from this revolutionary treatment for ageing eyes.
In the video below, we follow Ken, one of our London Vision Clinic patients, as expert surgeon, Mr Glenn Carp, explains the science behind Laser Blended Vision.

Laser Blended Vision vs Monovision
Laser Blended Vision is, in many ways, similar to traditional Monovision treatment – except it builds on this technique for even better results. For example, Monovision surgery replaces the eyes’ natural lenses with artificial intraocular lenses (or uses older laser systems), to focus one eye for near and one eye for distance.
While this can be an effective solution, figures show that the technique is only tolerated in around 60% of patients. In contrast, studies show that the “blend zone” created with PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision makes it a much more tolerable treatment, with suitability rates as high as 97%.
So, while it may not be able to stop the ageing process in its tracks, Laser Blended Vision can certainly make the process less noticeable.
What is Presbyopia?
Presbyopia is a common refractive error that develops as we get older – typically becoming noticeable as we reach our 40s – hence literally translating to ‘ old eye’. It occurs as the eye’s natural lens becomes less flexible over time and the muscles around it weaken. This affects the eye’s ‘zoom’ ability that is required for us to switch focus from near to distance viewing.
No one is immune to presbyopia, and unchecked, it inevitably leads to a growing dependence on reading glasses, bifocals, or varifocals.
You might have heard that Laser Eye Surgery can’t correct the need for reading glasses. But while this might have been the case once, the development of PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision changed that. Back in 2004, Professor Reinstein pioneered this revolutionary method, allowing surgeons to improve the depth of field of the eyes through laser corrective surgery. In 2009, London Vision Clinic became the first clinic in the UK to offer the treatment.
Since then, PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision has been adopted by Carl Zeiss Meditec and programmed into their lasers. This means that more clinics around the world are now able to offer this innovative treatment. However, not all Laser Eye Surgery providers are able to offer Laser Blended Vision, and many still resort to lens replacement surgery to correct presbyopia.
But we here at London Vision Clinic are proud to offer PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision – a far less invasive option, which is suitable for the vast majority of patients.
Key Advantages of PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision
Like Monovision, PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision corrects each eye differently. While the dominant eye is corrected to see mainly for distance and a little up close, the non-dominant eye is corrected mainly for near. The brain is then able to combine the two images to provide a much greater depth of vision and an all-around improvement in visual acuity.
The result? Many patients are able to throw away those pesky readers and enjoy glasses-free vision for years to come:
- Over 98% of PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision patients can read normal newsprint (‘N8’).
- Over 90% of PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision patients can read the small print on medicine bottle inserts.
