As everyone knows, January is a great time to get fit and healthy. Whether you’ve overindulged over the festive season, or are simply looking to take up a fun new hobby, the New Year is the perfect opportunity to overhaul your fitness regime.

Recently, we caught up with Lyndon Littlefair – Health and Performance Coach, and fitness instructor to Professor Reinstein – to get his view on getting in shape in 2015.

Lyndon “Each and every person is different, and therefore require a different approach to training,” says Lyndon. “Depending on where they’re currently at, I use a combination of techniques including corrective exercise, performance coaching and lifestyle coaching. The most effective strategy is always to take a personalised approach: I look at where people are at physically, work out where they want to get to, and then work out what is the best way for them to get there.”

“My aim is to help people to feel better in themselves, whether this is on the sporting field or simply during their day at work,” explains Lyndon. “My latest venture has been developed specifically for new mothers. I saw the importance of this after the birth of my own daughter.

“It can be a real struggle for new mums to maintain their fitness whilst everyone is juggling the hectic schedule of looking after a new born baby. This programme is mainly London based, but there are online options for people who don’t live in London.”

Professor Reinstein first got in touch with Lyndon several years ago. “Dan came to me to help him with neck issues,” Lyndon remembers. “After completing a physical assessment, I came into the clinic to see exactly what Dan did at work on a daily basis.

“This is where I got to see Dan work his magic and also to analyse the specific positions of his body at work; his work involves a lot of leaning forward and neck extension when looking through microscopes. Through this analysis, I developed a corrective exercise strategy and helped Dan to alleviate his neck stiffness which, by continued supervision on his muscle balance, remains in excellent shape to this day.”

Having known Dan for so long, Lyndon has seen London Vision Clinic grow and, in fact, several of his own clients have been treated:

“I remember one day, a long term client of mine said that he had some big news. He said that he was going to get laser eye surgery for his minus 10 prescription. He had been told that there was only one guy in London to go to – before I even asked him who it was, I knew the answer was going to be Dan Reinstein! Working out with glasses is a serious handicap! Many of my clients are at the age where their reading vision has deteriorated and so many say how laser eye surgery at the London Vision Clinic has changed their lives.”

Lyndon also extends his flexible approach to working around the schedules of his clients – many of whom, like Prof Reinstein (who starts training at 6.45am some mornings) are very busy people! While Lyndon is primarily based in central London, he has a whole team of trainers who visit people in their homes or even their workplaces, aiming to ensure that even the busiest professionals are able to make time for their health and fitness.

Lyndon has a wealth of experience, having been involved in the fitness industry for over 20 years – initially in Australia, and now in the UK at Equilibrium Personal Training. He specialises in corrective exercise, helping people with back or neck issues to alleviate pain and strengthen their bodies, and can be contacted with any enquiries about personal training on 07957 152245 or via lyndon@londonwellness.co.ukLyndon

As Professor Reinstein agrees, diet and lifestyle are important for everyone, not only for general fitness, but also for eye health. If you’d like to get some more tips on staying healthy in the New Year, why not read this article.
