There is No “Sell-By Date” on Aftercare at London Vision Clinic
There are many things to consider when choosing your Laser Eye Surgery provider, from cost and location to the clinic’s results and patient outcomes. With so many things to think about, it can be easy to overlook another important consideration: Aftercare.
Adequate aftercare can play a crucial role in achieving the expected treatment outcomes following Laser Eye Surgery. Moreover, if you don’t read the fine print at some clinics, you may find yourself facing extra costs just for the appointments and products that help ensure a smooth recovery.
Thankfully, when you opt to go ahead with London Vision Clinic, you can be sure that there is no “sell-by date” on your aftercare.
The Importance of Aftercare
Many people are surprised to discover how quick and straightforward recovery from Laser Eye Surgery can be. In fact, most patients who have LASIK or ReLEx SMILE can expect to be able to return to work in as little as 24 hours after their treatment; however, the importance of adequate aftercare cannot be overstated.
Laser Eye Surgery’s minimally invasive nature means that it doesn’t generally require the same level of caution as many other conventional surgical procedures. For example, patients can return home the same day and can resume many regular activities within a matter of days. Nonetheless, it remains important to follow the advised aftercare routine to avoid potential complications.
So, what will your aftercare routine involve?
Aftercare at London Vision Clinic
During your recovery from Laser Eye Surgery, your chosen clinic should provide you with lubricating eye drops and painkillers as part of your aftercare package. Whether you will be charged for these aftercare products can depend on your provider. At London Vision Clinic, all aftercare products are included in the cost of your treatment.
Lubricating Eye Drops
Laser Eye Surgery disrupts the cells of your cornea, which can cause dryness as your eyes heal. This is a completely normal side effect of the procedure, which is typically managed with a simple eye drop regimen. Our clinic staff will walk you through your new eye drop routine before your treatment and provide you with everything you need for the coming weeks.

Painkillers
The question of pain is on most prospective patients’ lips when they begin looking into Laser Eye Surgery. Thankfully, we are able to inform them that the procedure itself should be pain-free (though it can certainly feel a little strange!). Moreover, pain and discomfort after surgery are usually minimal and are typically manageable with the help of over-the-counter painkillers such as paracetamol and ibuprofen.
However, we can provide you with stronger painkillers in case you experience more severe discomfort. For more information on pain and Laser Eye Surgery, read our article, ‘Managing Pain and Discomfort After Laser Eye Surgery‘.
Aftercare Appointments
Following your initial screening and consultation appointment and, of course, your surgery day, you will be asked to return to our Harley Street clinic for a series of post-operative check-ups. The first of these appointments will be the day after your treatment.
Each of your aftercare appointments allows your surgeon to track your progress and ensure your recovery is going according to plan. It also allows us to make any necessary adjustments to your aftercare routine and gives you the opportunity to discuss any concerns you might have in relation to your recovery.
A Helping Hand a Phonecall Away…
We understand that not all queries can wait until your next post-operative appointment. That’s why our knowledgeable clinic staff are always on hand to help with any concerns or to advise you throughout your recovery. What’s more, patients at London Vision Clinic are given their surgeon’s personal mobile number in case of an emergency in the days following the procedure. Of course, such instances are extremely rare.
In addition, when they return home, and in the hours following surgery, London Vision Clinic patients receive a text message making sure that they are well and managing the post-operative care procedures. The medium of “text” is deliberately chosen in case the patient is resting and wouldn’t want to be disturbed by a phone call.
This access to our clinic staff and your surgeon remains open to our patients in the weeks, months, and even years following their treatment. There is no such thing as a “former” London Vision Clinic patient, and there is no “sell-by date” on aftercare.
