This time, our focus falls on a museum tucked away in Craven Street. Under the hustle and bustle of Trafalgar Square, is a collection of spectacles like no other. The British Optical Association (BOA) Museum, founded by J H Sutcliffe in 1901, is a unique museum that holds over 18,000 objects and archival items relating to the history of optometry, the human eye, visual aid, as well as these subjects in art….

London Vision Clinic staff made another impressive appearance at the ESCRS (European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons) conference in Milan this year. With a record eighteen talks between them, Medical Director Dan Reinstein, surgeon Glenn Carp and research manager Tim Archer had an extremely busy few days. Indeed Dr Dan is such a popular speaker that perhaps a time turner from Hogwarts might come in handy next year!!…
Entering the strange subterranean space underneath the Tate Modern for the first time is exciting – it feels like taking an adventurous step into the unknown. Passing through a sliding door on one side of the Turbine Hall, visitors can now explore the colossal spaces that were once used as oil tanks to fuel the old Bankside power station. Together with the raw concrete areas that surround the three original tanks, this lower world has been turned into permanent areas for what is described as “live art” or “art in action”….
In her free time, Sharon Ritchie, the most recent optometrist to join the London Vision Clinic, is a self- confessed “eye geek” and was determined to have a career in eye health since the age of ten. “I am just fascinated by eyes and how they work. I think I sometimes drive my friends crazy because I get so excited talking about eyes and my job.” …
