Choosing Laser Eye Surgery For Astigmatism
It’s often claimed that Laser Eye Surgery cannot treat astigmatism. And yet, at London Vision Clinic, we’ve been using Laser Surgery to treat astigmatism symptoms for many years. In the hands of an expert laser eye surgeon it is possible to correct astigmatic vision using LASIK or PRK / LASEK.

I can highly recommend LVC. All aspects of the press from the initial appointment, subsequent appointments, aftercare pack and treatment and the surgery is of the highest quality and far superior to what I expected when I decided to investigate Laser Eye Surgery. As a person wearing glasses from age of 12 and hard contact lenses, due to astigmatism from the age of 21 with poor eyesight, is the most liberating experience ever. I want to thank everyone @ LVC that has been involved in my treatment for the high level of professionalism and care.

In myopia and hyperopia, the eye surgeon is subtly reshaping what is essentially a normal-shaped, spherical cornea. But an astigmatic cornea is shaped more like a rugby ball than the normal sphere. This creates a flattened cone shape at the front of the eye.
Isabella, a patient, describes her search for a Laser Eye Surgery provider, and why she chose London Vision Clinic.
Light enters at different angles through this cone, creating two points of focus – and therefore a blurred image. This is what causes classic astigmatism symptoms such as blurred small print, difficulty reading, the inability to see both near and far without squinting, constant headache and fatigue.
The conical shape of the cornea means that the surgeon must take account of every distortion, in every direction. Although this is certainly more complex than standard myopia or hyperopia, virtually all astigmatism symptoms are treatable by an expert surgeon using the right technology and high astigmatism cases are routine at London Vision Clinic.
