Refractive Surgeon Chooses Dan Reinstein for His Surgery

In the video below, Dr Baraa Faham, a Laser Eye Surgeon working in Saudi Arabia, tells us why he decided to have Presbyopia treatment at our Harley Street clinic.

Dr Faham became interested in PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision after attending a course led by Professor Reinstein at the Reinstein Institute. He attended the course with two colleagues – one of whom was his boss. Within a month, Dr Faham had used this revolutionary technique to correct his boss’s presbyopia.

Professor Reinstein tells us, “After the course, I received a message and a link to a video which was on YouTube. He had gone home and his boss had said, “Do my eyes.” So, he had actually had PRESBYOND, I think, within a month of coming to our course.”

Since then, he has treated over 900 patients for presbyopia. But he soon began to wonder how the procedure could work for himself.

What is Presbyopia?

Presbyopia is a refractive error that begins to develop as we get older. It occurs when the crystalline lens in the eye begins to lose its flexibility. At the same time, the muscles responsible for our eyes’ focusing ability also begin to weaken, making it progressively more difficult for us to focus on objects close to us.

Most people will begin to need reading glasses or other corrective aids around the age of 40. While these can be very effective at correcting presbyopia, many people find them an inconvenient solution.

As a natural part of the eye’s ageing process, we will all eventually find ourselves experiencing a deterioration in our near vision. Thankfully, as Dr Faham can now attest, this doesn’t have to mean we are burdened with reading glasses for the rest of our lives.

Treating Dr Faham at London Vision Clinic

While Dr Faham was too young to notice the effects of presbyopia when he first took Dr Dan’s course a few years ago, he eventually began to see some deterioration in his near vision. Having a prescription for hyperopia (long-sightedness) already likely sped up the effects of ageing on the eyes.

“I’m a little bit jealous of my patients,” Dr Faham laughs. “All the patients are telling me how their life becomes better, how they feel… So, it’s bothering me all the time to use glasses for everything.”

Once his treatment is over – a process that takes a matter of minutes – Professor Reinstein reveals that the treatment went perfectly. “Okay, alright, that is 100% totally perfect in both eyes”, he tells Dr Faham.

On opening his eyes, Dr Faham confirms this diagnosis: “There are a lot of emotions happening here – I don’t know what to say… it was very nice, very easy, very simple.”
