Am I At Risk Of Experiencing Pain During the Procedure?

Most people are worried about pain when going in for even the most basic of operations. It is therefore unsurprising that many people fear the pain of corrective eye surgery so much that they debate scheduling even the initial consultation for weeks or even months. With regards to Laser Eye Surgery, the concern for many is rooted in the fact that you are conscious during the procedure. However, we want you to be assured that at London Vision Clinic we take measures above and beyond the norm to ensure that you are as comfortable as possible before, during, and after Laser Eye Surgery.

The important thing to keep in mind is that you will not feel any pain during the surgery. Anaesthetic eye drops are applied before the surgery to numb the eyes. You will be conscious and aware at all times, but we understand that some people are more anxious than others – either way, anxiety is perfectly normal, and a legitimate feeling to experience under the circumstances. However, on average, the entire process will take no more than 15 to 20 minutes for both of your eyes – which means you don’t actually have much time to feel worried! Furthermore, your highly qualified surgeon will walk you through the entire process step by step, to inform and assure you at every stage.

Most patients report that they were pleased, and even shocked, at the painlessness of the Laser Eye Surgery procedure. Many patients report wishing that they had not felt so anxious and afraid after their Laser Eye Surgery procedure was complete.

After the Laser Eye Surgery, you will be given eye drops to care for your eyes, as well as some mild painkiller, in case of any discomfort after the anaesthetic wears off (this is likely to be mild and short-lived!). Within a day, the vast majority of patients will be able to return to their normal routine, and any discomfort should subside.
