Why Do Laser Eye Surgery costs and prices vary so much from High Street to Harley Street clinics?
It’s a question we hear a lot. With some high street chains offering Laser Eye Surgery from as little as £800, there is often confusion when the high-end clinics charge up to £6,000+ for treatment.
So How Can Some Clinics Charge So Little For Laser Eye Surgery?
Here’s a clip of London Vision Clinic’s Professor Dan Reinstein explaining this:
Professor Reinstein says:
If done correctly, Laser Eye Surgery should cost a few thousand pounds per eye. Some high volume clinics can achieve some cost savings on their overheads by economies of scale. Overall, this would only account for a small saving to the patient, compared to the cost of doing the surgery properly.
Some clinic chains drive down their treatment costs by doing less for their patients. For example, they do less pre-operative screening, spend less time with the patient, use lower spec technology, use less qualified people, and do less follow up care.
Doing less for their patients can make their laser eye treatments cheaper. But it’s then a question of what parts of the safety protocols are you willing to cut to save a thousand pounds.
So Do You Really Get What You Pay For?
The simple answer is yes! But, like anything else in life, if you want cheap Laser Eye Surgery, there are some aspects of the process you will need to compromise on – be that on thorough screening, safety, patient care or outcomes. At the end of the day, it comes down to how much you value your eyesight and whether you are happy to compromise on what should be life-changing surgery.
At London Vision Clinic, we strongly believe that our patients’ treatments are second to none. The difference is clear from the moment you walk through our doors to the moment you walk out with your vision restored and throughout your recovery.
